Brandon Hall Reviews WebMentor LMS and Cites
Value, Technical Proactivity, User Ease and Competency
Management as Reasons to Make a Switch
Learning industry analyst firm Brandon Hall
recognized Avilar's WebMentor LMS in the category of "Best
Value" in the report "LMS KnowledgeBase 2007: In-Depth
Profiles of 60+ Learning Management Systems." Brandon Hall
included in its review, "Companies wishing to migrate to a new
LMS may wish to consider WebMentor LMS 5.3. The facet
architecture, although somewhat technical, can offer quick
interoperability and functionality."
The web-based report provides detailed information on
63 learning management systems and is available as a resource
to key decision-makers in their LMS selection processes.
Brandon Hall Research has been conducting studies on eLearning
products since 1992. As part of the "Best Value" category,
Avilar was recognized for providing "quite a punch for the
price."
In addition to acknowledgement of value and
recommendation as a replacement option, Brandon Hall also
recognized Avilar's dedication to user ease. "We found
WebMentor's interface to be clean, straightforward and
customizable. It's quick drill-down features allow
administrators a seamless macro and micro view of student
data."
Avilar CEO John Skowlund is pleased with both the
praise within the review as well as the consistency of
Avilar's evaluations. "Brandon Hall continues to rank Avilar
as a best value LMS with attention to SCORM compliance, user
ease and back-end operability," says Skowlund.
"Acknowledgement within these areas is consistent with
previous reviews, and we are happily surprised to see Brandon
Hall recommend WebMentor LMS to those seeking a new LMS. We
see this review as substantiation that Avilar has a stronghold
on our technology and place within the eLearning industry."
In recognition of Avilar's longevity within the
eLearning industry, Brandon Hall reviewed, "The lessons
learned during its decade of growth are reflected in its
latest release of WebMentor LMS 5.3. This version anticipated
future needs and offers proactive solutions."
Avilar's program architecture also received positive
marks. "A striking feature of WebMentor LMS 5.3 is that the
program's architecture is build upon 'facets,'" reviews
Brandon Hall. "Back office and content interoperability are
achieved by using middleware to develop modules called facets.
These facets, such as log-ins, e-commerce, communication, and
courseware creation, are developed and implement via
middleware (ColdFusion). Although somewhat technical, rapid
migration of data from one environment to another can be
achieved."
Another distinctive factor of Webmentor LMS is its
add- on competency management component, WebMentor Skills. The
competency management system measures employee competency
levels against a competency model, also available with the
system. From these measurements, skill gaps are gained which
aid in the strategic workforce decision-making capabilities of
the organization. When used in conjunction with or independent
from WebMentor LMS, organizations are able to create
individual development plans to close skill gaps, produce
succession plans, and add competencies to performance
management programs, among other workforce initiatives.
