AICC Overview

Standards-based eLearning

What is the AICC?

The Aviation Industry CBT Committee (AICC) is a nonprofit, membership-driven organization dedicated to helping the aviation training community get the most out of today’s technology. They bring together aviation trainers, courseware developers, software vendors, simulator designers and airframe manufacturers to develop standards, technology recommendations and analysis of best practices. AICC shares published standards and certification processes with the public, and members contribute to the development of the standards that drive today's and tomorrow's training technologies. Find out more at aicc.org.

A Commitment to AICC Compliance

Avilar has self-tested WebMentor LMS using CMI Test Suite 1.5 and passed the test for AGR-010 Revision 4.0 ("Web-based Computer Managed Instruction").

What is the difference between "compliance" and "certification"?

The term "AICC Compliant" means that a training product complies with one or more of the 9 AICC Guidelines & Recommendations (AGR's). Since there are 9 different AGR's, "AICC compliance" can mean different things as there are 9 different possibilities to "comply" with.

Some vendors claim that their product is "AICC Compliant" if they feel that they comply with ANY of the 9 AGR's. This can be quite confusing. When talking to vendors of "AICC Compliant" products, be sure to ask vendors which specific AGR(s) that they comply with.

"AICC Certified" means that a training system has passed one or more AICC test suites administered by a disinterested third party picked by the AICC. Only a handful of products have bothered to become "AICC Certified".

Choose with care

Avilar encourages you to be a "smart shopper" for your next LMS. When you talk to a vendor who claims to comply with AICC/CMI guidelines, ask for proof with the following questions:

  1. Ask them if they have been "AICC Certified". You can verify by checking the AICC's list of certified products. Click here for the list.
  2. If they claim to have "self-tested" their systems, ask them which AICC/CM test suite they ran, and if they have a copy of test logs.
  3. Ask which version of the AICC/CMI guidelines they comply with. WebMentor LMS has been self-tested using CMI Test Suite 1.5 and passed the test for AGR-010 Revision 4.0 ("Web-based Computer Managed Instruction").
